Corn Rebounds Amid Lack of Farmers Sales
CHICAGO (Dow Jones)-- U.S. grain and soybean futures ended higher Tuesday, as
a lack of farmer selling helped corn rebound from multi-month lows.
Corn for December delivery at the Chicago Board of Trade ended up 5 cents to
$5.85 1/4 per bushel, up from an early low of $5.70, which was the lowest price
for front-month corn in a year.
March corn, the most-active contract, also ended up, rebounding from 9-month
lows early in the session to close up 5 1/2 cents to $5.96 1/2.
Traders said corn led the way higher, as the market shook off the early
losses, which were fueled by persistently sluggish export demand. The higher
close staves off what traders said would have been a negative close technically,
one that would have likely prompted trend-followers to sell.
A lack of farmer selling has underpinned the market, and the downturn in
futures hasn't prompted them to release supplies.
"Basis is tight and farmers aren't selling a lot of corn, suggesting it's not
there," says Joel Karlin of Western Milling. Basis is the difference between
cash market and futures prices.
Other analysts said that farmers do have grain to sell, but that after making
strong profits this year as grain prices soared, they have the luxury of holding
on to the grain and waiting for prices to rebound in the new year.
Regardless of what happens over the next few months, corn supplies are going
to remain tight in 2012, domestically and globally, added Shawn McCambridge,
senior grains analyst for Prudential Bache.
But lackluster export sales have cast a negative tone over the market in
recent weeks. A large purchase of European corn by Japan, which typically relies
on U.S. supplies, highlighted those concerns Tuesday.
"We [the U.S.] just don't have our traditional export customers. If we're more
expensive, they're going to head down the road," said Chad Henderson, an analyst
with Prime Ag Consultants, a Wisconsin brokerage.
Soybean and wheat futures joined in the rally Tuesday. CBOT soy for January
delivery ended up 3 1/4 cents at $11.29 1/2 a bushel
Uncertainty about the soy crop in South America, where forecasts are lacking
rain, is also underpinning prices, although some traders are dismissive of those
concerns. Forecasts call for mostly dry weather across key growing regions over
the next several days.
"There's been more talk this week of South American weather turning drier, but
it's just talk," Tim Hannagan of PFG Best said in a report to clients.
December CBOT wheat ended flat at $5.98 3/4 while other contracts closed
higher. December wheat at the Kansas City Board of Trade ended up 1/2 cent to
$6.67 and Minneapolis Grain Exchange December wheat closed up 6 cents to $8.54
1/4.
Other Markets
U.S. rice futures closed higher, rebounding from a recent slump as firmer cash
prices underpinned the market.
Rice futures, which have tumbled throughout the fall, are cheap compared to
cash prices, said Price Futures Group Vice President Jack Scoville. "The cash
market is pretty dead, but it's quoted higher" he said.
CBOT January rice closed up 21c at $14.59 1/2 per hundredweight.
CBOT oats futures end mostly lower. Front-month December oats ended flat at $3
a bushel while most-active March oats settled down 3 1/4 cents to $3.03 3/4.
Ethanol futures were mixed, with January ethanol ending down $0.023, or 1%, to
$2.181 per gallon. Some deferred contracts were higher.

Soy Futures Rise on Corn, South America Uncertainty
3:22 (Dow Jones) US soybean futures end slightly higher, rebounding from early
losses thanks to support from corn. Soy fell along with ag futures generally in
the early going, but rallied as corn bounced from 1-year lows. Uncertainty about

underpinning prices, although some traders are dismissive of those concerns.

ton. December soymeal, burdened by weaker crude oil, fell 0.09c to 49.98c/pound.

China Soybeans Futures Falls Amid Weakening Consumption Outlook
BEIJING (Dow Jones)--Soybean futures on the Dalian Commodity Exchange fell
Tuesday as weak domestic consumption cut into crushing margins amid pervasive
worries over increasingly bleaker macroeconomic conditions.
The most actively traded September soybean contract settled 0.4% lower at
CNY4,266 a metric ton.
"Worries about the euro are leading market sentiment globally, bringing asset
classes downward systemically," Nanhua Futures analyst Huang Yinyan said.
While there was no major news on soybean demand-supply fundamentals setting a
clear price direction Tuesday, trade was thin due to market perceptions of tepid
domestic consumption.
"Crushing margins have been low and are still decreasing," Huang said,
pointing to losses of around CNY53/ton for processing each ton of domestic
beans.
U.S. soybean and grain futures fell Monday as the market resumed focusing on
Europe's debt crisis and weak global demand, and as the euro fell versus the
U.S. dollar.
Chicago Board of Trade soybeans staged a weak recovery during Asian hours
Tuesday, with the nearby contract up less than one cent at $11.27 a bushel at
0715 GMT, though corn and soyoil futures continued to soften.
Despite lower global prices, China's soybean imports are expected to weaken.
"Imports have been declining [on a sequential monthly basis] since [July], not
just for soybeans but also for edible oils," Huang said, pointing to slack
domestic demand.
A Ministry of Commerce forecast suggests Chinese November soybean imports may
reach a relatively high 5.63 million tons, but the ministry had overshot its
October estimate by more than 1 million tons. Chinese customs authorities are
expected to release trade data Saturday.

China Food Prices Mixed Last Week, Vegetables Rises
BEIJING (Dow Jones)--Food prices in China were mixed in the week to Sunday,
with prices of vegetables marking a fourth consecutive week of increases, the
Ministry of Commerce said Tuesday.
Food price movements are closely watched, as food accounts for about a third
of China's consumer price index and has contributed to sharp inflationary
pressures this year.
Average wholesale prices for 18 types of vegetables monitored by the ministry
rose 4.7% in the week to Sunday, accelerating from a 3% increase the previous
week. Vegetable prices have risen 9.8% since mid-September, the ministry said.
Pork prices, a key culprit of inflation earlier this year, fell 1.2% and have
declined 11.7% since mid-September, the ministry said.
Edible-oil prices held steady, while chicken and egg prices fell 0.3% and
0.7%, respectively, it said.
Mutton prices rose 0.6% and beef was up 0.5%, it said. Prices of these meats
have been mostly rising by marginal amounts each week since mid-October.

BMD CPO May rise in 2012 on Fundemental
0652 GMT [Dow Jones] La Nina weather-related production risks and strong
demand for palm oil will likely result in higher CPO prices next year, Stanchart
says; it tips BMD CPO to average MYR3,450/ton in 2012 compared with its forecast
of MYR3,216/ton this year. "Demand from China and India is relatively muted, but
will likely pick up in 1Q 2012 as stocks are drawn down," assuming CPO prices
are still competitive compared with competing soyoil, it says. Benchmark
February CPO is MYR28 lower at MYR3,094/ton.

Europe Rapeseed Weather - 6 Dec
EUROPE
SUMMARY- Periods of rain, snow and mixed precipitation yesterday, 0.10-1.25+
inches (3-32+ mm) liquid. However, mostly dry across the southern Iberian
Peninsula. Temperatures 29 to 70F (-2 to 21C).
***NOTE: On and off periods of strong winds during the past week across the
British Isles, western and southern Scandinavia, and coast areas of western
Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, and portions of northern mainland Europe has
caused episodes of battering waves and some coastal flooding, as well as
scattered power outages. Wind will be rather strong across northwestern areas
through at least the middle of this week with some additional problems
possible. Some snow and mixed precipitation possibly affecting travel in
portions of northern Europe as well.
FORECAST-
TODAY...Patchy rain, snow and mixed precipitation in many areas, except far
southwest Europe. Liquid precipitation amounts of 0.10-0.80 inch (3-20 mm).
Temperatures 27 to 67F (-3 to 19C).
TONIGHT...Showers spread slowly east overnight.
TOMORROW...Additional periods of rain, snow and mixed precipitation,
0.10-1.25+ inches (3-32+ mm) liquid. However, mostly dry across southwestern
and south-central Europe. Temperatures 28 to 68F (-2 to 20C).
OUTLOOK...Rain and snow/mix retreating mainly to northern Europe Thursday
through Saturday. Temperatures variable this period.
EUROPE RAPESEED
CROP IMPACT- Recent drier weather through England, as well as west and south
France should favor the planting effort for winter rapeseed, after earlier wet
conditions, though showers in western and northern England the next couple
days. Drier weather to the east is more favorable for planting. Soil moisture
in these areas favors the developing crop.

BMD CPO Drops on Crude, Soyoils
0357 GMT [Dow Jones] BMD CPO is lower on crude oil and e-CBOT soyoil due
to a weak global economic outlook, a Kuala Lumpur-based trading executive says.
"Buyer interest is fading as traders exercise caution following S&P's euro-zone
downgrade warning Monday," he says. He tips support for BMD CPO at MYR3,080/ton
today due to supportive supply; wet weather in major palm oil growing areas may
disrupt harvesting and December CPO production may fall 10% on month, he says.
Benchmark February CPO is MYR18 lower at MYR3,104/ton; CBOT January soyoil is
down 0.4% in screen trade.

Singapore, Viterra launch Canola Oil Plant
BEIJING (Dow Jones)--A canola oil production joint venture between Singapore's
Viterra Asia Pte. Ltd. and China's Fangchenggang Maple Edible Oil Co. has begun
operations, a state agency reported Tuesday.
The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region-based venture will annually process
600,000 metric tons of canola, also called rapeseed, and produce 240,000 tons of
canola oil, the state-backed China National Grain and Oils Information Center
said.
The joint investment in the edible oil processing plant totaled CNY340 million
($53 million), it said.
Besides the Viterra project, three other projects--each capable of processing
2,000 tons a day of canola--have been completed or are expected to be completed
in the first half of 2012, including one by state giant Cofco Group, the center
said.
The projects are collectively expected to bring Guangxi's rapeseed processing
capacity to nearly 8,000 tons a day.

BMD CPO Average, Q1 2012 - Rabobank
0245 GMT [Dow Jones] Rabobank predicts that BMD CPO will average
MYR2,800/ton in the first quarter of 2012 compared with its forecast of
MYR3,000/ton for this quarter, citing increasing production. 2011-12 global palm
oil production will likely surpass the 50 million-ton mark for the first time,
allowing prices to ease, the agricultural lender says. Still, declining
availability of competing soyoil and rapeseed oil as well as strong demand for
palm oil from China and India could trigger a rebound to MYR3,000/ton by 3Q
2012, it adds. Benchmark February CPO is trading MYR14 lower at MYR3,108/ton,
toward the upper end of the MYR2,750-MYR3,270/ton range seen so far this
quarter.

soyoil ended 2 points higher at 50.07 cents/lb; CBOT January soyoil is down 19

US Soy and Grain Review
CHICAGO (Dow Jones)--A shift in sentiment about Europe's debt crisis and weak
demand sent U.S. grain and soybean futures lower Monday.
The agricultural commodities had posted early gains Monday, but the rally
fizzled as Europe's problems pushed the euro sharply lower versus the U.S.
dollar.
Corn for December delivery at the Chicago Board of Trade ended down 6 1/4
cents, or 1.1%, at $5.80 1/4. The market had climbed as high as $5.92 in early
trade.
Soybean futures also retreated, with disappointing weekly export inspections
adding to the pressure. CBOT January soybeans closed down 9 1/2 cents at $11.26
1/4 a bushel, down 20 cents from the day's highs.
A drop in the euro during the session helped drive commodity prices lower,
serving as a reminder that the optimism about Europe ahead of a Friday debt
summit was purely speculative.
"We only have hopes going into the summit," said Rich Nelson, an analyst with
Allendale. "We don't have facts yet."
Traders added that early gains had more to do with short-covering than any
shift in supply and demand fundamentals, which are considered weak due to poor
exports. Along with soybean exports, wheat export inspections Monday were also
weak, traders said.
Corn export inspections were slightly better than expected, but traders said
the outlook for exports generally was dim for corn and wheat, thanks in part to
a flood of cheaper, feed-quality wheat from the Black Sea region and Australia.
Traders said the market lacks any fundamentals news, and they are looking
ahead to Friday's supply and demand report from the U.S. Department of
Agriculture.
"At this point we're floating around and waiting until Friday," said Jerry
Gidel of North America Risk Management Services.
Many traders are expecting the government to increase its stockpile estimates
due to weak demand.
Losses Monday were limited in soybeans by uncertainty about the South American
crop, which need ample rains to ensure strong yields. In wheat, worries about
crops in the Ukraine and the U.S. southern Plains are limiting losses.
CBOT December wheat ended down 13 1/2 cents at $5.98 3/4 a bushel. Kansas City
Board of Trade wheat closed down 9 1/2 cents at $6.66 1/2, and Minneapolis Grain
Exchange wheat ended down 7 3/4 cents at $8.48 1/4.
Analysts said the grains markets will remain vulnerable to shifts in sentiment
on Europe's debt crisis, which will prompt caution as traders are wary of being
on the wrong side of global events they can't predict.
Meanwhile, soybean meal ended lower, with the December contract settling down
$5.30 at $281.10 a short ton. December soybean oil held steady amid flat crude
oil prices, ending up 0.02 cents at 50.07 cents a pound.
U.S. rice futures ended slightly lower amid lackluster demand. Poor demand
sent the market down sharply all autumn, but prices have rebounded recently,
building ideas that a market bottom is in place. World supplies are considered
ample. CBOT January rice ended down 7 cents at $14.38 1/2 per hundredweight,
down 3% since Wednesday.
U.S. ethanol futures were mixed, as the market avoided a selloff in many other
commodities thanks to stable crude oil prices. December CBOT ethanol ended down
0.003 cents at $2.50 a gallon. Some deferred contracts were slightly higher.
CBOT oats ended mostly lower. Oats for March delivery ended down 7 3/4 cents
at $3.07 1/4.

US Soybean futures lower, Euro worries
(Dow Jones) US soybean futures end lower, retreating from early gains on
poor export demand and outside pressure. Early gains fueled by optimism about
Europe's debt, but enthusiasm waned and commodities fell on reports S&P is
putting Europe's triple-A countries on downgrade watch. Weekly soybean export
inspections were disappointing, and traders say South American weather, while
dry, is not yet a major problem for the crop. CBOT Jan soybeans end down 9 1/2c
